Permanent Make Up Before & After Care
(Please Read Carefully and Follow for Best Results)
General Before-Care (All PMU Procedures)
-
No exercise or heavy sweating the day before your procedure.
-
Avoid blood thinners: Do not take Aspirin, Ibuprofen, Fish Oil, Vitamin E, or Niacin for 1 week prior (unless medically necessary).
-
No steroid injections for at least 30 days before treatment.
-
No alcohol or caffeine for 48 hours prior—this minimizes bleeding and swelling.
-
No brow grooming: Avoid tweezing/waxing at least 48 hours before; electrolysis no less than 5 days prior.
-
No Botox or fillers: Must be done at least 6–8 weeks before your appointment.
-
Lash extensions: Remove at least 3 days before eyeliner procedures.
-
Contact lenses: Remove before eyeliner procedures; bring glasses if needed.
-
Plan around your cycle: You may be more sensitive during menstruation.
-
Healthy skin: Avoid sunburn, tanning, or any open wounds near the procedure area.
General After-Care (All PMU Procedures)
Immediately After Procedure:
-
The treated area will appear darker and sharper for up to 1 week.
-
Mild swelling or redness is normal and may feel like a sunburn.
-
Most swelling will resolve in 24–48 hours but may last up to 3 days.
First 10 Days:
-
For brows: Rinse gently with lukewarm water 2 hours post-procedure, pat dry, and keep dry for 10 days.
-
For eyeliner: Keep eyes dry; clean around the eyes only with sterile water and a Q-tip.
-
Do not use soaps, moisturizers, or makeup on the area for 10 days.
-
Expect light flaking or scabbing; do not pick, scratch, or peel.
-
Once flakes shed, the pigment may seem faint—this is normal.
Restrictions:
-
No sweating or workouts for 7 days (sweat fades pigment quickly).
-
Avoid sun exposure for 14 days; wear a hat outdoors.
-
No chemical peels, facials, or microdermabrasion for 4 weeks.
-
Avoid sleeping on your face for the first 10 days.
-
No makeup, Vaseline, Neosporin, or petroleum-based products on the treated area.
-
Avoid Retin-A, AHAs, bleaching creams, or acne treatments until healed.
Healing Timeline:
-
Week 1: Scabbing/flaking; color appears darker.
-
Week 2: Pigment may look lighter or patchy.
-
Weeks 3–4: Pigment settles and color evens out.
-
6–8 Weeks: Skin fully heals; touch-up recommended for best results.
Lip PMU Specific Care
Before:
If you have herpes simplex (cold sores), ask your doctor for an antiviral prescription (Zovirax, Valtrex) before your procedure to prevent outbreaks.
After:
-
Moderate swelling is normal for 1–2 days. Apply a cold compress (wrapped in paper towel).
-
Lips will feel dry or tight; keep them moisturized with Vitamin E, A&D Ointment, or Vaseline (apply with Q-tip) for 2 weeks.
-
Do not allow lips to dry out; this can cause cracking and scabbing.
-
Avoid sun exposure for 14 days and use a straw for beverages.
-
Avoid citrus, spicy, oily, or salty foods until fully healed.
-
Be careful while brushing teeth and avoid whitening products during healing.
-
Do not wipe or lick lips frequently; this slows healing.
IMPORTANT REMINDERS
-
Full healing takes 6–8 weeks; pigment will soften and lighten during this time.
-
Touch-ups are essential for best results and can be scheduled after healing.
-
If you notice excessive swelling, pus, or unusual symptoms, contact your technician or a healthcare provider immediately.
